Solid Third Round Bumps Women's Golf Up To Fourth To Conclude Big West Championship

San Luis Obispo, CA—An impressive 304 score Tuesday in the third round of the Big West Conference Championship bumped the UC Riverside Women's Golf Team up to fourth place out of eight squads to conclude the three-day tournament at San Luis Obispo Country Club with a final score of 940.
The Highlanders moved up the ladder each day of the event, starting with a 325 score on Sunday that saw them place seventh. In the second round, UCR lowered its score to a 311 and moved up one spot, and in the final round, the blue and gold shot their best-ever result of the week with a 304.
In the process, UC Riverside leap frogged Cal State Fullerton and Cal Poly, both of whom were in front heading into Tuesday's final round.
The Highlanders fourth place finish is their highest in the Big West Championship since the 2006 and 2007 seasons, when the team placed third on both occasions.
"Today was a great end to a record season for the program," Head Coach Eric Riehle exclaimed. "I couldn't be more proud of the work ethic, passion, and fight from the entire team. They represented UC Riverside and Highlanders Athletics very well this week."
Leading the way on the final day was Amelia Ek with a one-under-par 72, and Brittani Ferraro with a one-over-par 74.
Ek finished out the tournament with a three-round score of 231 (82-77-72) to place 15th, while Ferraro finished with a 230 (79-77-74) to tie for 12th.
Savannah Vilaubi was the Highlanders top finisher with a 229 (77-74-78) total score, tying for 10th place overall.
Hannah Lee (88-83-80) and Christy Fogerty (87-84-81) shot 251 and 252 respectively to tie for 34th and 36th.
UC Davis won the team title at the Big West Championship with a three-round score of 881, 29 strokes ahead of second-place Long Beach State (910). UC Irvine finished in third with a 922 with UCR in fourth at 940.
The Titans (949) and Mustangs (950) finished one stroke apart in fifth and sixth place while Cal State Northridge (954) finished seventh and Hawai'i (957) placed eighth.
The Aggies had four golfers in the top four spots, including the winner, Demi Runas with a one-under 218.
